Last week at the West Palm Beach Green Market, Table 26 co-owners Eddie Schmidt and Ozzie Medeiros were accompanied by West Palm Beach District 5 City Commissioner, Shanon Materio, as they participated in the third consecutive Meals on Wheels of the Palm Beaches `Pie' It Forward holiday campaign. The group teamed up to sell pies at the market in an effort to raise funds for local seniors in need.
About 'Pie It Forward':
In the spirit of paying it forward, chefs throughout Palm Beach County team up to 'pie' it forward. The initiative, which started in 2014, provides nutritious midday meals to homebound seniors living alone. Locals locals can order $25 Thanksgiving pies from the Meals on Wheels website for pickup on Tuesday, Nov. 24, from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Pie varieties include pumpkin, pecan, and apple.
The program has been referred to as Palm Beach County’s biggest Thanksgiving do-good pie sale. Last year, Meals on Wheels of the Palm Beaches sold 2,000 pies donated by the county’s most prestigious chefs and bakers.
Table 26 was one of many pie-baking venues that participated. Others include the Four Seasons Resort Palm Beach, Frenchman’s Creek Beach & Country Club, Hilton West Palm Beach, Howley’s Restaurant, Kitchen, Lake Worth Community High Culinary School, Mirasol Country Club, Palermo’s Italian Bakery, Palm Beach County Convention Center, Polo Club Boca Raton, Sandy James Catering , The Beach Club, The Club at Ibis, The Colony, Wellington Hospitality Group and Whole Foods Market.
Shanon Materio is up for re-election of her District 5 West Palm Beach City Commission seat next March. There will be a re-election campaign event for Materio on Wednesday, November 8th from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. at Elizabeth Ave Station in West Palm Beach.
