As we have previously reported, Nick & Johnnie's will be closing on June 24. It was a great nine year run for the restaurant that pulled "triple duty" as a local favorite for lunch, dinner, and late night. While it may be closing, here are some of our favorites - new and old - that remain in and around Palm Beach.
Opened only last year, Costa is the new 'hot spot' in Palm Beach. Located in a villa on Worth Avenue, this new mediterranean restaurant is serving up fresh raw bar menu options, cold prosecco, and hot seafood.
The owner, Sascha Bennemann, is a local who grew up on the island and attended Palm Beach Day Academy. His vast experience in the culinary world placed him at esteemed restaurants such as Thierry Beaud's PB Catch and Pistache French Bistro. He was also the manager and maître d’, at the well known and respected Palm Beach restaurant, Bice.
Some of our favorites: Oysters on Wednesday are just $1 for ladies! We also love the Lobster Cocktail, Moroccan Lamb Stew, and Crispy Pernil.
Tucked away on Worth Avenue near South County Road remains one of the great vestiges of truly historic Palm Beach. Ta-boo harkens to a time when life in South Florida was simpler and people unabashedly used seasons as verbs. First launched in 1941, Ta-boo has called Worth Avenue of Palm Beach home longer than even than many of its famous retail neighbors.
The upscale bistro boasts a very happening scene, especially at lunch, and a menu that assuredly has something for everyone. The bacon cheeseburger is the best in town, and the dessert is not to be missed.
Some of our favorites: the crabstack, the brie and pear pizza, and the ta-boo lust!
Palm Beach Grill
Unfortunately still only open for dinner, this modern dining room consistently draws a crowd, even in the summer. A lovely wine list, a simple yet wonderful menu, and a bar scene that runs two to three people deep on the weekends, "the Grill" is the grand dame of the Royal Poinciana Plaza, and with good reason: whether it's date night, dinner with friends, or a bite at the bar, it's consistently a pleaser.
Some of our favorites: wood grilled artichokes, heirloom tomato salad, the dover sole (when you can get it!), creole shrimp.
Nestled on Dixie Highway just south of the Norton, Table 26 exudes a simply stated elegance with a subtle nautical decor. While seated in the dining room or at the bar, your mind may drift towards a trip on the high seas, our stomach drifts towards the bouillabaisse, though everything on the comfort food inspired menu is worthy of sampling at least once, and their bread pudding is a must. To really enjoy the summer, a seat on the covered patio and a signature Table 26 martini is tough to beat. Be sure to drop in for their summer hours half off dining menu (more information at www.table26palmbeach.com). PS - Table 26 has recently opened for lunch with a dedicated lunch menu.
Some of our favorites: the bouillabaisse, Ozzie's roasted chicken, banana & bread pudding.
Sharing the top floor of the Par 3's clubhouse, Al Fresco features a condensed version of their Worth Avenue sister restaurant's menu. The food is wonderful, but what really makes Al Fresco special is the view. Featuring a covered patio with views of the Atlantic Ocean and the well maintained Palm Beach Par 3 golf course, patrons enjoy an Italian themed menu with country club favorites mixed in among pizzas, pastas, and salads.
Some of our favorites: the Al Fresco pizza, turkey club sandwich, beet salad.
Grato hit the West Palm Beach food scene with a blaze of success. The still packed dining room is stylish, large and welcoming. The food is generous and intriguing, boasting the freshest ingredients and thoughtful menu items. If that's not enough, it is also owned and operated by the famed Chef Clay Conley, who first cut his teeth under chef Todd English in Boston. It was there that he narrowed in on his Italian cooking skills. Several years later, Conley settled in West Palm Beach via Miami. His latest venture, Grato, like its sister restaurants Buccan and Imoto, is always a place to see and be seen.
Some of our favorites: whole roasted cauliflower, octopus, bucatini carbonara, the DAK pizza, 'carrot cake' waffle.
